Yin Fire Goat (Ding Wei, 丁未) day pillar

Your day pillar is the pair of characters for the day you were born. The top one, the stem, is your day master — you. The bottom one, the branch, is what it sits on. The sixty pillars come round in turn, one a day, so about one person in sixty was born on a Ding Wei day.

Each branch holds one to three stems. The ones under your own day master are the closest things to you in the chart.
- Yin Earth (Ji, 己), the main one — Eating God (Shi Shen, 食神). What you produce, same polarity. Output that comes easily: making, feeding, expressing, without strain.
- Yin Fire (Ding, 丁) — Friend (Bi Jian, 比肩). Same element, same polarity as you. A peer: someone standing where you stand, competing for the same thing and equally able to share the load.
- Yin Wood (Yi, 乙) — Indirect Resource (Pian Yin, 偏印). What produces you, same polarity. Support of an indirect kind — the tradition treats it as nourishment that can also crowd out the Eating God (食神).

Dragon (辰), Dog (戌), Ox (丑) and Goat (未) months, the Seven Killings (偏官) held in check. A Horse (午) month with strong stems, noble. Rooster (酉) and Dog (戌) in year or month, office to the third grade. Pig (亥), Rabbit (卯), Tiger (寅) and Dog, literary nobility; pure Rabbit running Metal and Water periods, gold and purple.

if it enters the Reverse Clash (倒冲) pattern with nothing clashing or breaking it, noble. Snake (巳) and Pig (亥) in year or month, third or fourth grade. Rooster (酉) and Ox (丑) binding a wealth frame, wealthy.

Horse hour 11:00–13:00 · Yang Fire Horse (Bing Wu, 丙午)
noble; breaking the ancestors and making it. Year and month dislike a Yang Water (壬) or Yin Water (癸) character. A Wood Monkey (甲申) month, wealth, officer and Resource (印) as three marvels; a Dragon (辰) month, the officer vault; a Pig (亥) month, officer and Resource — all greatly noble.

Where the pillars run through Metal, Water and Wood together with Metal and Water periods, clothing and the prosperity star settled, greatly noble.

Monkey hour 15:00–17:00 · Yang Earth Monkey (Wu Shen, 戊申)
born in Snake (巳), Horse (午), Goat (未) or Dog (戌), the self strong and conspicuously noble. If Pig (亥) and Rabbit (卯) gather with Goat, or Rat (子) and Dragon (辰) gather with Monkey (申), both are read as noble.

it governs punishment. Pig (亥) and Rabbit (卯) gathering as the Resource (印), Monkey (申), Rat (子) and Dragon (辰) gathering as officer — both govern literary nobility. A Horse (午) month, the Established Prosperity (建禄), and with a Rat clashing it, ill. If year and month use Earth to produce wealth, it governs riches; using wealth to produce the officer, wealth and rank both complete.
