The hours, on the clock in Kuala Lumpur
Almanacs give the hours by the sun: the Horse hour is 11 to 1, when the sun is highest. In Kuala Lumpur today the sun runs 57 minutes behind the clock, so on your clock the Horse hour is 11:57–13:57. The table is already converted. Why
| Hour | Clock time | Luck | Clashes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rat (子) | 23:57–01:57 | Unlucky | Horse (马) |
| Ox (丑) | 01:57–03:57 | Lucky | Goat (羊) |
| Tiger (寅) | 03:57–05:57 | Unlucky | Monkey (猴) |
| Rabbit (卯) | 05:57–07:57 | Unlucky | Rooster (鸡) |
| Dragon (辰) | 07:57–09:57 | Lucky | Dog (狗) |
| Snake (巳) | 09:57–11:57 | Unlucky | Pig (猪) |
| Horse (午) | 11:57–13:57 | Lucky | Rat (鼠) |
| Goat (未) | 13:57–15:57 | Lucky | Ox (牛) |
| Monkey (申) | 15:57–17:57 | Unlucky | Tiger (虎) |
| Rooster (酉) | 17:57–19:57 | Unlucky | Rabbit (兔) |
| Dog (戌) | 19:57–21:57 | Lucky | Dragon (龙) |
| Pig (亥) | 21:57–23:57 | Lucky | Snake (蛇) |
Lucky or unlucky by the spirit ruling the hour: six walk the yellow path and are lucky (Green Dragon, Bright Hall, Golden Casket, Heavenly Virtue, Jade Hall, Keeper of Fate); the other six walk the black path.
Today for each day master
BaZi reads a day by what its stem is to your day master, and a month by the month’s stem. This day’s stem is Yin Wood (Yi, 乙); this month, the Earth Dog month (Wu Xu, 戊戌), has Yang Earth (Wu, 戊). Each links to what the classics say about it. Don’t know your day master? Read each day against your whole chart
The Peng Zu taboos
A rhyme every almanac prints: one line for the day’s stem, one for its branch.
Yi days: do not plant, or a thousand seedlings will not grow. (乙不栽植千株不长)
Pig days: do not marry, or it goes badly for the groom. (亥不嫁娶不利新郎)
God of Joy (Xi Shen, 喜神): northwest. God of Wealth (Cai Shen, 财神): northeast. God of Fortune (Fu Shen, 福神): southwest.
Choosing a date
How it is worked out
- Day officer
- Twelve officers in a fixed order: the day whose branch matches the month’s is Establish, then Remove, Full, Balance, Stable, Initiate, Destruction, Danger, Success, Receive, Open and Close. On the day a new month begins, the officer repeats. Months run from solar term to solar term, not from new moon.
- Ruling spirit
- Twelve spirits take turns by day, starting from a point set by the month’s branch. Six walk the yellow path and are lucky; six walk the black. The hours work the same way, starting from the day’s branch.
- Clash
- The animal whose branch is opposite the day’s (Rat and Horse, Ox and Goat, and so on). The sha lies in the direction of the element the day’s branch group overcomes.
- Hours
- The twelve hours are sun time, converted to clock time for the city you choose from its longitude and the time of year. The same correction this site makes to every chart.
- Good for and avoid
- From the open-source lunar library (6tail). Its author built the lists from a popular Chinese calendar website’s data and says they may differ from other sources.
