Yin Earth Goat (Ji Wei, 己未) day pillar
A Yin Earth day master, the Garden, sitting on the Goat.
Your day pillar is the pair of characters for the day you were born. The top one, the stem, is your day master — you. The bottom one, the branch, is what it sits on. The sixty pillars come round in turn, one a day, so about one person in sixty was born on a Ji Wei day.
Its sound element: Fire in the Sky (Tian Shang Huo, 天上火)
The sixty pillars go in pairs, and each pair carries a sound element (Na Yin, 纳音) — an image, separate from the element of the stem. The classic San Ming Tong Hui (三命通会) describes each pillar by it:

Each branch holds one to three stems. The ones under your own day master are the closest things to you in the chart.
- Yin Earth (Ji, 己), the main one — Friend (Bi Jian, 比肩). Same element, same polarity as you. A peer: someone standing where you stand, competing for the same thing and equally able to share the load.
- Yin Fire (Ding, 丁) — Indirect Resource (Pian Yin, 偏印). What produces you, same polarity. Support of an indirect kind — the tradition treats it as nourishment that can also crowd out the Eating God (食神).
- Yin Wood (Yi, 乙) — Seven Killings (Qi Sha, 七杀). What controls you, same polarity. Pressure with nothing softening it: demand, risk, and whatever you answer to whether you chose it or not.

Rat hour 23:00–01:00 · Yang Wood Rat (Jia Zi, 甲子)
high, the self sitting on the officer vault. Dragon (辰), Dog (戌), Ox (丑) and Goat (未) months, favourable. Tiger (寅) and Pig (亥) months, the officer strong, the writing rousing and coming out, conspicuous nobility easily made. Snake (巳) and Ox, literary nobility late in coming. Tiger and Rabbit (卯), poor and low. It dislikes a Wood Monkey (甲申) month, dying without a whole body; a Fire Rat (丙子) month, solitude and poverty; a Fire Ox (丁丑) month, punishment and harm.
高身坐官库，辰戌丑未月，吉。寅亥月，官旺，文章振发，贵显易成。巳丑，文贵晚成。寅卯，贫下。忌甲申月，身不完死。丙子月，孤贫。丁丑月，刑害。
Ox hour 01:00–03:00 · Yin Wood Ox (Yi Chou, 乙丑)
hour and day clash together — the wife producing wealth will do. Rabbit (卯) and Horse (午) in year or month, the Metal Spirit (金神) entering a Fire country, a southwestern period, noble. Dragon (辰) and Dog (戌) with the four seasons complete, greatly noble. With Yin Fire (丁) and Yin Metal (辛) showing at the stems, pure yin, also noble.
时日并冲，妻生财可也。卯午年月，金神入火乡，西南运，贵。辰戌四季全，大贵。干透丁辛，纯阴亦贵。
Tiger hour 03:00–05:00 · Yang Fire Tiger (Bing Yin, 丙寅)
born where Earth (土) is thick, then noble. Water and Wood in year or month running a northeastern period, noble. It is also said many are born of a secondary wife or adopted out, or do not see the father who begot them.
生土厚地，方贵。水木年月，行东北运，贵。一云多庶出过房，或父不见生。
Rabbit hour 05:00–07:00 · Yin Fire Rabbit (Ding Mao, 丁卯)
if not noble then wealthy; Rabbit (卯), Dog (戌), Pig (亥) and Ox (丑) in year or month, favourable.
Dragon hour 07:00–09:00 · Yang Earth Dragon (Wu Chen, 戊辰)
an Ox (丑) month, mixed-qi wealth and officer, favourable. Tiger (寅), Dragon (辰), Snake (巳), Pig (亥), Horse (午) and Dog (戌) in year or month, the writing conspicuous and noble.
丑月，杂气财官，吉。寅辰巳亥午戌年月，文章贵显。
Snake hour 09:00–11:00 · Yin Earth Snake (Ji Si, 己巳)
the Flanked Prosperity (拱禄) pattern. If there is no the Yang Blade (羊刃) or Seven Killings (七煞) and no Horse (午) character filling it in solid, and it does not offend the Void (空亡), it governs conspicuous nobility. Pig (亥), Ox (丑), Dragon (辰) and Monkey (申) in year or month running an eastern period, civil and military at the highest grade. This pattern is not the equal of Fire Snake (丁巳) and Fire Goat (丁未), because Yin Fire (丁)'s proper the prosperity star (禄) is there while Yin Earth (己) only lodges its prosperity star.
拱禄格。若无羊刃七煞，午字填实，不犯空亡，主显贵。亥丑辰申年月，行东运，文武极品。此格不如丁巳、丁未，以丁正禄，巳寄禄故也。
Horse hour 11:00–13:00 · Yang Metal Horse (Geng Wu, 庚午)
turning from the prosperity star (禄) with Hurting Officer (伤官), the six relations punished and harmed; with nothing broken, in later years it flourishes. Goat (未) and Dog (戌) in year or month, noble.
背禄伤官，六亲刑克；无破，晚年发旺。未戌年月，贵。
Goat hour 13:00–15:00 · Yin Metal Goat (Xin Wei, 辛未)
spring and summer, and an Ox (丑) month, the bearing outstanding, the speech clear and discerning, the name high and the prosperity star (禄) weighty. Autumn and winter ordinary. Wood and Fire periods, punishment and harm bring money out. One account says wealth harms itself within.
春夏、丑月，丰姿特达，言语清辨，名高禄重。秋冬，平常。木火运，刑害发财。一云财中自害。
Monkey hour 15:00–17:00 · Yang Water Monkey (Ren Shen, 壬申)
born in a Snake (巳) month, the granaries rotting and the grain stale. Pig (亥), Rat (子) and Tiger (寅) months with Metal and Fire periods, marquis or earl. Dragon (辰) and Pig in year or month, close to the throne, noble.

Rooster hour 17:00–19:00 · Yin Water Rooster (Gui You, 癸酉)
Dog (戌), Pig (亥), Ox (丑) and Dragon (辰) in year or month with a western period, noble. Rat (子) and Snake (巳), greatly noble. Rabbit (卯) and Dragon, close to the throne but not greatly.

Dog hour 19:00–21:00 · Yang Wood Dog (Jia Xu, 甲戌)
harmed, sunk and meeting punishment. Tiger (寅) and Horse (午) in year or month, third or fourth grade, noble. A Dog (戌) month with a southeastern period, fifth grade. Pure Metal Rabbit (辛卯) in year and month, punishment.
Pig hour 21:00–23:00 · Yin Wood Pig (Yi Hai, 乙亥)
with no punishment, breaking or muddling, pure, high, wealthy and noble, his letters worth boasting of.
