Yang Earth Tiger (Wu Yin, 戊寅) day pillar
A Yang Earth day master, the Mountain, sitting on the Tiger.
Your day pillar is the pair of characters for the day you were born. The top one, the stem, is your day master — you. The bottom one, the branch, is what it sits on. The sixty pillars come round in turn, one a day, so about one person in sixty was born on a Wu Yin day.

Each branch holds one to three stems. The ones under your own day master are the closest things to you in the chart.
- Yang Wood (Jia, 甲), the main one — Seven Killings (Qi Sha, 七杀). What controls you, same polarity. Pressure with nothing softening it: demand, risk, and whatever you answer to whether you chose it or not.
- Yang Fire (Bing, 丙) — Indirect Resource (Pian Yin, 偏印). What produces you, same polarity. Support of an indirect kind — the tradition treats it as nourishment that can also crowd out the Eating God (食神).
- Yang Earth (Wu, 戊) — Friend (Bi Jian, 比肩). Same element, same polarity as you. A peer: someone standing where you stand, competing for the same thing and equally able to share the load.

Rat hour 23:00–01:00 · Yang Water Rat (Ren Zi, 壬子)
a Rabbit (卯) month, the Direct Officer (正官) pattern, noble. Summer awkward, autumn little smooth. Ox (丑) and Rooster (酉) in year or month, favourable. It dislikes an Earth Snake (己巳) month, punishment; an Earth Pig (己亥) month, cruel punishment.

Ox hour 01:00–03:00 · Yin Water Ox (Gui Chou, 癸丑)
Tiger (寅), Snake (巳), Horse (午), Goat (未) and Dog (戌) months, transforming to Fire, favourable. Autumn and winter ordinary.
寅已午未戌月，化火吉。秋冬平常。
Tiger hour 03:00–05:00 · Yang Wood Tiger (Jia Yin, 甲寅)
the self strong, flesh and blood not living together. A Horse (午) month, the blade and Resource (印) carrying the Killings (煞); a Rat (子) month, Direct Wealth (正财) siding with the Killings, with something showing at the stems to check it; Pig (亥), Rabbit (卯) and Goat (未), pure Killings with the self soft, and the blade showing at the stems, running a southwestern period — military authority over ten thousand miles; Snake (巳), Ox (丑) and Dog (戌) in year or month, the self strong and a match for the Killings; Rooster (酉), Ox and Monkey (申), checking the Killings — all govern great nobility. It dislikes the Robbery Star (劫煞) controlling the self, which is ill.

Rabbit hour 05:00–07:00 · Yin Wood Rabbit (Yi Mao, 乙卯)
Pig (亥) and Rat (子) in year or month, the wife worthy and the children filial, noble. Rabbit (卯) and Dragon (辰) pure, favourable; Tiger (寅) and Snake (巳) also favourable.

Dragon hour 07:00–09:00 · Yang Fire Dragon (Bing Chen, 丙辰)
the dragon sings and the tiger roars — greatly noble in middle age. A Rat (子) month running a northern period, where Earth (土) is thick, office to the third grade; an eastern period, the censorate. Ox (丑) and Dragon (辰) in year or month, fourth or fifth grade. A Tiger (寅), Horse (午) or Dog (戌) year with a month carrying Earth qi, running Wood and Fire periods, the highest grade.
龙吟虎啸，中年大贵。子月，行北运，土厚地方，官至三品；东运，风宪。丑辰年月，四五品贵。寅午戌年，通土气月，行木火运，极品。
Snake hour 09:00–11:00 · Yin Fire Snake (Ding Si, 丁巳)
Tiger (寅) and Snake (巳) punish each other — grief over wife and children. A Horse (午) month with a northeastern period, the censorate. Tiger and Horse in year or month, fourth grade.
寅巳相刑，忧伤妻子。午月，东北运，风宪。寅午年月，四品。
Horse hour 11:00–13:00 · Yang Earth Horse (Wu Wu, 戊午)
a Dog (戌) month, the triad binding a Fire frame, with Yin Water (癸) showing at the stems to transform, and getting the season of heaven and the profit of earth — noble. Where year and month have Monkey (申) and Rat (子) gathering as Water and Tiger (寅) and Horse (午) gathering as Fire, there is the marvel of the crossing complete; a Dragon (辰) month gets it too; Rooster (酉), Hurting Officer (伤官); Goat (未), officer and Resource (印) — all favourable.
戌月，三合火局，干透癸化，得天时地利者贵。年月申子会水，寅午会火，有既济之妙；辰月亦得；酉伤官；未官印，俱吉。
Goat hour 13:00–15:00 · Yin Earth Goat (Ji Wei, 己未)
hour and day pierce each other — grief over wife and children, bitter early and good late. Where the month carries Earth qi, running wealth and officer periods, noble; a Water or Wood month running a period where the self is strong, noble.

Monkey hour 15:00–17:00 · Yang Metal Monkey (Geng Shen, 庚申)
cruel punishment and afterwards it comes out; if born in a Tiger (寅) month, read as the Eating God (食) and the prosperity star (禄) checking the Killings (煞), noble.
