The Voice (Ju Men, 巨门) star
Speech, and the doubts and disputes that come with it.
One of the fourteen main stars of Purple Star Astrology (Zi Wei Dou Shu, 紫微斗数). They are not stars in the sky: they are fourteen named markers that your birth date and hour place around a ring of twelve palaces, and each palace stands for one part of life. What this star means depends on which palace it lands in.
When this site works out a chart’s type, it counts this star with the Ju Ri family (巨日): The Herald, built to be heard — visible, persuasive, works through voice.
What the classic Zi Wei Dou Shu Quan Shu (紫微斗数全书) says it is
Water and Metal, the second star of the northern dipper, the star of the yin essence, transformed to darkness. In the Self it draws quarrelling for a lifetime; in Siblings, kin who do not align; in Spouse, being kept at an angle, parting in life or death — and though there is a partner, a stained name and lost standing are not escaped; in Children, they are drawn only after a loss, and there are some yet as if none; in Wealth, the sense of contention; in Health with the Punisher (天刑) or eye trouble (化忌), and with a malefic, infirmity; in Travel, disputes drawn on; in Servants, much resentment and turning against; in Career, punishment drawn on; in Property, the ancestral estate scattered; in Wellbeing its harm is a little lighter; in Parents, being cast aside. Master Xiyi (希夷先生) says: The Voice (巨门) in heaven governs the ranking of all things; in the reckoning it holds right and wrong, and governs what is dark and hidden — doubting what is so and multiplying what is not, deceiving heaven and earth, hard put to advance or retreat. Its nature is right to the face and wrong behind it; it agrees with few kin, and with people it begins well and ends badly. If in the twelve palaces no strong placement shines on it, it makes calamity wherever it goes, and hurry and toil. Reaching Pig (亥), Tiger (寅), Snake (巳) or Monkey (申), even wealth and rank do not last. Meeting the Sun (太阳) the favourable and ill are half and half; meeting the General (七杀) it governs killing and injury. With the Wolf (贪狼) and the Great Drain (大耗) travelling together, exile through appetite. Meeting the emperor's seat, its force is held down; meeting the Hoard (禄存), its calamity is dissolved. In the opposite palace meeting the Flare and the Ember (火铃) and the White Tiger (白虎) with no emperor to hold it down, banishment a thousand miles. Malefics gathered in the trine, and fire is certainly met. This is a reckoning of solitude, a god that cuts and strips. Except for a religious life or one of the nine crafts, there is no escaping toil and stumbling; and a limit meeting the ill stars carries no light calamity.
答曰：巨門屬水、金。北斗第二星也，為陰精之星，化氣為暗。在身命一生招口舌之非；在兄弟則骨肉參商；在夫妻主於隔角，生離死別，縱夫妻有對，不免汙名失節；在子息損後方招，雖有而無；在財帛有爭競之意；在疾厄遇刑忌，眼目之災，殺臨主殘疾；在遷移則招是非；在奴僕則多怨逆；在官祿主招刑杖；在田宅則破蕩祖業；在福德其禍稍輕；在父母則遭棄擲。希夷先生曰：巨門在天，司品萬物。在數則掌執是非，主於暗昧，疑是多非，欺瞞天地，進退兩難。其性則面是背非，六親寡合，交人初善終惡。十二宮中若無廟樂照臨，到處為災，奔波勞碌。至亥寅巳申，雖富貴亦不耐久。會太陽則吉凶相半，逢七殺則主殺傷。貪耗同行，因好徒配。遇帝座則制其強。逢祿存則解其厄，對宮遇火鈴、白虎，無帝壓制，決配千里。三合殺湊，必遭火厄，此乃孤獨之數，刻剝之神。除為僧道九流，方免勞神偃蹇，限逢凶曜災難不輕。

The Voice in each of the twelve palaces
Volume two of the classic goes palace by palace and says what each star does there. Each line below is its sentence for this star, translated. “Well placed” and “badly placed” refer to the star’s brightness in that branch.
Self palace (Ming Gong, 命宫)
who you are at core
Darkness, its transformed nature (化暗), and the star of dispute. At Rat (子) or Horse (午) it sits well, and with the Merit transformation (化科), the Power transformation (化权) or the Fortune transformation (化禄) in trine, high office. With the Blade (擎羊) in the seat of the self, or the Flare and the Ember (火铃) met, things run crooked: quick-tempered, upside-down, a hundred matters and no order among them. Well placed in a woman's chart with the two Aides (左右) added, honour and long life.
巨门水，北斗化暗，主是非。巨门入男命吉凶诀：巨门子午二宫逢，局中得遇以为荣，三合化吉科权禄，官高极品衣紫袍。巨门守命遇擎羊，火铃逢之事不祥，为人性急多颠倒，百事茫茫乱主张。巨门入女命吉凶诀：巨门旺地多生吉，左右加临寿更长，女人得此诚为贵，帘卷珍珠坐绣房。相貌清奇多近宠，不然寿夭或凶亡。巨门入限吉凶诀：巨门主限化权星，最喜求谋万事成，虽有官灾并口舌，逢凶化吉得安宁。巨门入限动人愁，若遇丧门事不周，士庶逢之多惹讼，居官失职有丁忧。巨门限陷最乖张，无事官非闹一场，哭泣丧祸终不免，破财呕气受凄凉。

Siblings palace (Xiong Di, 兄弟)
siblings, and the people alongside you
Well placed, two. Badly placed, half-siblings, and better living apart. With the Sun (太阳) and the two Aides and the Scholar and the Artist (左右昌曲), three; with the Strategist (天机), two, and more at odds; with the Blessing (天同), two or three. With the six malefics, solitary and harmed.
巨门庙旺二人，陷地，各胞有，宜分居，太阳同加左右昌曲有三人，天机同有二人，更乖违不一心，天同二三人，加羊陀火铃空劫孤克。
Spouse palace (Fu Qi, 夫妻)
marriage and close partnership
An older partner suits; harm and little harmony are settled. With the Sun (太阳) and none of the four malefics, growing old together. With the Strategist (天机), a helpmeet, and good-looking. With the Blessing (天同), a clever wife alongside. With the six malefics, two wives lost, or parting while both live.
巨门宜年长定克欠和，太阳同无四杀加谐老，天机同内助美貌，天同同性聪之妻并头，加羊陀火铃空劫定克二妻或主生离。
Children palace (Zi Nü, the Children palace (子女))
children, and what you create
Well placed, two — hard at first, easier after. With the Sun (太阳), one or two, easily raised. With the six malefics, few. With the Strategist (天机), one, or two with a benefic present; with the Void and the Plunder (空劫), none at all.
巨门入庙二入，先难后易，太阳同居一二子易养，加羊陀火铃子少，天机同一人，有吉星同二人加空劫全无。
Wealth palace (Cai Bo, 财帛)
money coming in and going out
Made from nothing, and best taken from busy places; the proud lose it suddenly. With the Sun (太阳) well placed, a household built on what is already there. With the Strategist (天机), money that feeds the person, made by no single trade. With the Blessing (天同), built from nothing, and good for the lesser trades. With the six malefics, losses on every side.
巨门白手生财成家，宜闹中取，气高之人横破，太阳同入庙守见成家计，天机同财气生身，所作不一，天同同白手成家，九流人吉，加羊陀火铃空劫破财多端。
Health palace (Ji E, the Health palace (疾厄))
the body, and what wears it down
Suppuration in youth. With the Sun (太阳), sores on the head; with the Blessing (天同), complaints of the lower body. With the Blade (羊) and Fire (火), ailments brought on by drink. With trouble in the ears and eyes (化忌).
巨门少年脓血之厄，太阳同有头疯疽，天同同下部主有疯症，加羊火酒免之疾，加忌有耳目之忧。
Travel palace (Qian Yi, 迁移)
going out — travel, moving, elsewhere
Worry abroad and no ease; friction with people and many disputes. With the six malefics, worse.
巨门出外劳心不安，与人不足多是非，加羊陀火铃空劫愈甚。
Friends palace (Pu Yi, 仆役)
friends and the people you work with
Well placed, no help in early years, disputes, and none stay long. With the Sun (太阳), they help and guard the household; with the Blessing (天同), they come in later years.
巨门入庙早年不得力，招是非，不能久居，太阳同助主卫家，天同天一心，天同同末年招得。
Career palace (Guan Lu, 官禄)
work and standing
Well placed, authority in military office; for a civil man it does not last. With the Sun (太阳), advances and retreats — well placed, it lasts. With the Strategist (天机) at Rabbit (卯), favourable; at Rooster (酉), fine but without an ending. Badly placed, regret and reproach; with the six malefics, worse still — demoted and stripped of office.
巨门入庙武职权贵，文人不耐久，太阳同有进退，入庙久长，天机同在卯宫吉美，在酉宫虽美无始终，陷宫遭悔吝，加羊陀火铃空劫更不美，退宫卸职。
Property palace (Tian Zhai, 田宅)
home, property, what you keep
Well placed, sudden acquisition and purchase; badly placed, no share, and property brings disputes. With the Sun (太阳), nothing first and something after. With the six malefics, no property at all.
巨门庙旺横发置买，陷地无分，因田产招非，太阳同先无后有，加羊陀火铃空劫田宅全无。
Wellbeing palace (Fu De, 福德)
peace of mind, and what you enjoy
Effort and no peace. With the Sun (太阳), sorrows and joys both; with the Strategist (天机), a busy mind and no peace; with blessing (天同). With the six malefics, much worry throughout life.
巨门劳力不安，太阳同有忧有喜，天机同心忙不安，天同同享福，加羊陀火铃空劫生平多忧。
Parents palace (Fu Mu, 父母)
parents, and anyone with authority over you
Badly placed, injury and harm, the line left, adopted out. With the Sun (太阳), little harmony; with the Strategist (天机), a second set of parents; with the Blessing (天同), no harm, or the inheritance recedes. With the six malefics, the parents are not both kept.
巨门陷地伤克弃祖过房，太阳同少和，天机同重，拜天同同或退祖无刑，加羊陀火铃空劫父母不周全。
