Yang Fire Dog (Bing Xu, 丙戌) day pillar
A Yang Fire day master, the Sun, sitting on the Dog.
Your day pillar is the pair of characters for the day you were born. The top one, the stem, is your day master — you. The bottom one, the branch, is what it sits on. The sixty pillars come round in turn, one a day, so about one person in sixty was born on a Bing Xu day.

- Yang Earth (Wu, 戊), the main one — Eating God (Shi Shen, 食神). What you produce, same polarity. Output that comes easily: making, feeding, expressing, without strain.
- Yin Metal (Xin, 辛) — Direct Wealth (Zheng Cai, 正财). What you control, opposite polarity. Wealth held steadily — earned, kept, accounted for.
- Yin Fire (Ding, 丁) — Rob Wealth (Jie Cai, 劫财). Same element, opposite polarity. A peer who takes rather than shares — the tradition reads it as what draws on your resources through people close to you.

Rat hour 23:00–01:00 · Yang Earth Rat (Wu Zi, 戊子)
born in spring, the Direct Resource (印绶) is best. Summer, the self too strong, ordinary. Autumn, wealth strong and the self declining; with something to lean on, noble. Pure Rooster (酉) in year and month, the nobility of advancement in letters. It dislikes an Earth Pig (己亥) month, dying without a whole body; a Water Ox (癸丑) month, poor and short-lived.

Ox hour 01:00–03:00 · Yin Earth Ox (Ji Chou, 己丑)
high; military punishment and afterwards it flourishes. Born in Pig (亥) or Rabbit (卯) months with Fire and Metal periods, greatly noble. Dragon (辰) and Goat (未), the four vaults complete, Fire and Earth binding into a frame — greatly wealthy.

Tiger hour 03:00–05:00 · Yang Metal Tiger (Geng Yin, 庚寅)
born in Pig (亥) or Rat (子) months, conspicuously noble. Monkey (申) and Rooster (酉) in year or month running a northern period; Tiger (寅), Horse (午) and Dog (戌) running an officer-ghost (官鬼) period — both greatly noble. If the period comes to death and cutting-off, it enters the yellow springs beyond doubt.

ill. Rabbit (卯) and Goat (未) in year or month running Fire and Earth periods, office to the third grade, the wife worthy and the children filial. Dragon (辰), Dog (戌) and Ox (丑) months, level and settled. Tiger (寅), Horse (午), Rat (子) and Snake (巳) in year or month, the censorate.

Snake hour 09:00–11:00 · Yin Water Snake (Gui Si, 癸巳)
Rabbit (卯), Dog (戌), Ox (丑) and Goat (未) months, noble but not lasting. Tiger (寅) and Pig (亥) in year or month, the censorate; it dislikes clash and punishment, and he should abstain from wine.

Goat hour 13:00–15:00 · Yin Wood Goat (Yi Wei, 乙未)
Monkey (申), Rat (子) and Dragon (辰) in year or month, close to the throne and noble. Tiger (寅), Rabbit (卯) and Snake (巳) in year or month, greatly noble.
申子辰年月，近侍贵。寅卯巳年月，大贵。未时丙月生无疑，雁伴随缘各自飞；运气若行东与北，平时衣禄自无亏。
Monkey hour 15:00–17:00 · Yang Fire Monkey (Bing Shen, 丙申)
where the pillars have no Yang Water (壬), Yin Water (癸), Pig (亥), Rat (子) or Rooster (酉) to fill it in solid, it is read as an embracing (拱) pattern, noble. Tiger (寅), Dog (戌), Snake (巳) and Horse (午), the self strong with nothing to lean on — a monk or priest.
