Yang Water (Ren, 壬) day master: The Ocean

Water in the 1st month has the look of the open sea and can take in a hundred rivers; but Water is yielding by nature, so Yang Metal (庚) should be used as its source, and then it is not boundless. Yang Metal, Yang Fire (丙) and Yang Earth (戊) all showing means the examinations and a name. Yang Metal and Yang Earth hidden in the branches with the Yang Fire seated on Tiger (寅) still brings an honour; even a single Yang Metal showing means the academy.

正月壬水，汪洋之象，能並百川之流，然水性柔弱，宜用庚金之源，庶不致汪洋無度，有庚丙戊三者齊透，科甲功名，或庚戊藏支，丙坐寅支者，亦有恩誥，即一庚透，貢監有之。

Water in the 2nd month: the cold is just gone and it has the look of joined streams. It does not use Yang Fire (丙) for warmth — take Yang Earth (戊) and Yin Metal (辛) in particular. Yang Earth first, Yin Metal after, Yang Metal (庚) next.

二月壬水，寒氣初除，有並流之象，不用丙暖，專取戊土辛金，二月壬水，先戊後辛，庚金次之。

Water in the 3rd month: Yang Earth (戊) holds power, and there is the danger of hills pushed over and the sea stopped up. Use Yang Wood (甲) first to break the season's Earth, then take Yang Metal (庚).

三月壬水，戊土司權，死有推山塞海之患，先用甲疏季土，次取庚金。

Water in the 4th month: Yang Fire (丙) holds power and the Water is weak in the extreme. Take a Yang Water (壬) of its own kind in particular as help, then Yin Metal (辛) to open the source — which also quietly joins with the Yang Fire — with Yang Metal (庚) in support.

四月壬水，丙火司權，水弱極矣，專取壬水比肩為助，次取辛金發源，且暗合丙火，庚金為佐。

Water in the 5th month: Yin Fire (丁) strong and Yang Water (壬) weak. Take Yin Water (癸) as the useful element (用神), with Yang Metal (庚) in support: without Yang Metal the Water cannot rise, and without Yin Water the Yin Fire cannot be hurt. In this month Yin Metal (辛) and Yin Water may also be brought in, on the same reasoning as the 4th.

五月壬水，丁旺壬弱，取癸為用，取庚為佐，無庚不能發水，無癸不能傷丁，五月壬水，辛癸亦可參用，其理與四月皆同。

Water in the 6th month: Yin Earth (己) is in power and Yin Fire (丁) is on its way out. Use Yin Metal (辛) and Yin Water (癸) first, then Yang Wood (甲) to break the Earth. Yin Metal first, Yang Wood after, and Yin Water taken next.

六月壬水，己土當權，丁火退氣，先用辛金癸水，次用甲木劈土，六月壬水，先辛後甲，次取癸水。

Water in the 7th month: Yang Metal (庚) holds the season and the Yang Water (壬) has its Birth (長生) in Monkey (申), so the stream comes from far off and what was weak turns strong. Use Yang Earth (戊) in particular, then take Yin Fire (丁) to support the Yang Earth and check the Yang Metal — but the Yang Earth of Dragon (辰) or Dog (戌), not the ailing Yang Earth inside Monkey. Yang Earth and Yin Fire both showing means the examinations. Yang Earth showing in the stems with Yin Fire hidden in Horse (午) or Dog, an appointment to come. What must be avoided is Yang Earth joining with Yin Water (癸).

七月壬水，庚金司令，壬得申之長生，源流自遠，轉弱為強，專用戊土，次取丁火佐戊制庚，但用辰戌之戊，不用申中受病之戊，戊丁俱透，科甲生員，戊透天干，丁藏午戌，恩封可待，特忌戊癸化合，即支見寅戌，年出丁火，可許衣衿，或丁戊兩藏，富中取貴。

Water in the 8th month: Yin Metal (辛) holds power — Metal white and Water clear. Yang Earth (戊) is the sickness, so use Yang Wood (甲) in particular: one Yang Wood showing to check the Yang Earth and the Yang Water (壬) is clear to the bottom, and the name stands high in the academy. If the Yang Wood comes out in the hour stem, the name is prominent; a Yang Metal (庚) breaking it makes an ordinary person. Even a Yang Wood hidden in a branch, with no Yang Metal, allows a licentiate.

八月壬水，辛金司權，正金白水清，忌戊土為病，專用甲木，甲木一透制戊，壬水澈底澄清，名高翰苑，若甲出時幹，功名顯達，設見庚破，又屬常人，即甲藏支，無庚，秀才可許。

Water in the 9th month is gathering force and its nature is thickening. With a run of Yang Water (壬) and one Yang Wood (甲) to check the Yang Earth (戊) held in Dog (戌), and the Yang Earth also showing in the stems, then use Yang Fire (丙) — a chart clean and honoured in the extreme, exactly the one general at the pass before whom the crowd of evils gives way. Without Yang Fire and Yang Earth, it is not fine.

九月壬水進氣，其性將厚，若一派壬水，見一甲，制戌中之戊，戊又出乾，斯用丙火，此格清貴極矣，正合一將當關，群邪自伏，或不見丙戊，亦不為妙。

Water in the 10th month holds power, strong in the extreme. Take Yang Earth (戊) as the useful element (用神). Born on a Dragon (辰) day stem and with a Dragon hour as well, a Yang Earth must show, and a Yang Metal (庚) is needed to check the Yang Wood (甲) so the Yang Earth is not hurt. Yang Earth and Yang Metal both complete means a place in the examinations and high position. A Yang Wood showing and checking the Yang Earth with no Yang Metal to save it is read as hardship; a Yang Earth hidden with nothing checking it allows a licentiate. Yang Earth and Yang Metal both showing with no Yang Wood also means honour.

十月壬水司權，至旺之極，取戊為用，若生辰日乾，又見辰時，必須戊透，又須庚制甲，不傷戊土，戊庚兩全，定主登科及第，，位顯權高，或甲出制戊，不見庚救者，斷之困窮，戊藏無制，可許生員，或戊庚兩透無甲者，亦主榮顯。

Water in the 11th month: the Yang Blade (陽刃) backs the self, and it is stronger still than the month before. Take Yang Earth (戊) first, then use Yang Fire (丙). Both showing means wealth, rank and prosperity; Yang Earth without Yang Fire, a modest fortune may be spoken of; Yang Fire without Yang Earth, good at planning and nothing comes of it.

十一月壬水，陽刃幫身，較前更旺，先取戊土，次用丙火，丙戊兩透，富貴榮華，有戊無丙，略可言富，有丙無戊，好謀無成。

Water in the 12th month is strong to the point of turning weak — because in the first half of the month Yin Water (癸) and Yin Metal (辛) are in charge, so it is strong, and Yang Fire (丙) is used in particular; and in the second half Yin Earth (己) is in charge, so it is weak, and Yang Fire is used again, with Yang Wood (甲) in support.

十二月壬水，旺極複衰，何也，上半月癸辛主事，故旺，專用丙火，下半月己土主事，故衰，亦用丙火，甲木佐之。

A Yang Water (壬) day born at the Metal Rat (庚子) hour: upon Rat (子) an open Yang Metal (庚) and hidden damage; in a Fire or Earth month it still governs the favourable, and not running through, fierce and cruel, merely ordinary. For a Yang Water day at the Metal Rat hour: the blade strong and the self robust. Yang Water takes Yang Metal as its Overturned Meal (倒食) and Yin Water (癸) as the Yang Blade (羊刃); at the hour the open Yang Metal and the Yin Water are strong. If it carries a month of Fire and Earth qi to check the Yang Metal and Yin Water, greatly noble; not carrying it, fierce, cruel and ordinary. Running through in the period is also noble. Water Rat (壬子) day at the Metal Rat hour: Dragon (辰), Dog (戌), Ox (丑) and Goat (未) months, mixed-qi wealth and officer; Snake (巳), Monkey (申), Rooster (酉) and Ox, Direct Resource (印绶), dwelling in the division where Earth (土) is thick — all noble. A Tiger (寅) month with Metal and Water periods, close to the throne, gold and purple. A Horse (午) month running a western period, sixth grade; a Rat period, spoiled and ill. If it is pure Water Rat, the Yang Blade, poor and ill. One account says wealthy young, hard from thirty-five, and greatly wealthy at the last. It dislikes a Metal Snake (辛巳) month, a cruel and evil death; a Metal Pig (辛亥) month, greatly ill; a Wood Rat (甲子) month, punishment. Water Tiger (壬寅) day at the Metal Rat hour: noble and punished. Dragon, Dog, Ox and Goat months, mixed-qi wealth and officer; Snake, Monkey and Rooster months, Direct Resource — both noble. It dislikes a Wood Snake (乙巳) month, taking punishment; a Fire Rooster (丁酉) month, great ruin, the ancestors and a bad death; a Wood Pig (乙亥) month, punishment. Water Dragon (壬辰) day at the Metal Rat hour: if born in a Tiger or Horse month, the wealth star strong; Dragon, Dog, Ox and Goat, the officer strong — both favourable. Pure Dragon with Yang Metal and Yang Water showing makes the Yang Water riding the dragon’s back (壬骑龙背) pattern, greatly noble. It dislikes a Fire Dragon (丙辰) month, an early death with the body not whole; a Fire Goat (丁未) month, breaking the ancestors, solitude; a Metal Ox (辛丑) month, great ruin, punishment. Water Horse (壬午) day at the Metal Rat hour: hour and day clash together — many daughters and few sons. Ox and Goat months running a southern period, wealth and rank. For other years and months, look to the noble destinies and it may be seen. It dislikes a Wood Horse (甲午) month, self-punishment and much right and wrong; a Water Rooster (癸酉) month, great ruin, losing the home village and a bad death; a Metal Pig month, a bad death. Water Monkey (壬申) day at the Metal Rat hour: poor, punishment. A Goat month, mixed-qi wealth and officer, running a period where wealth is strong, conspicuously noble, hard first and easy after. Dragon, gathering as Water too strong, and it must run Fire and Earth periods, favourable. Ox and Dog, wealth, officer and Direct Resource, all favourable. Spring and winter ordinary; autumn and summer, favourable and glad. It dislikes a Wood Snake month, taking punishment, early death; Fire Rooster, early death; a Wood Pig month, solitude and self-punishment. Water Dog (壬戌) day at the Metal Rat hour: early death. An Ox month with Metal and Fire periods; Dragon and Goat, the wealth-and-officer pattern — both noble. Tiger and Rooster running a northwestern period, noble. Monkey, Rat and Dragon running a southeastern period, the highest grade. It dislikes Snake and Rooster months, solitary and ill; a Fire Pig (丁亥) month, cruel punishment and a bad death; a Metal Ox month, punishment. Verse: the heavenly stem, a Yang Water day, the Metal Rat hour — the Owl (枭) day from of old meets Rob Wealth (劫财); the period weak, guard against control and harm to wife and children, and the period strong, wealth and the prosperity star (禄) come of themselves from heaven. Verse: a Yang Water day meeting Metal Rat at the hour — Rob Wealth and the Overturned Meal lingering on. The period running Friend (比) and Rob Wealth (劫), matters grieve and burn; wealth and the prosperity star cannot run through and show. The order of siblings and both parents disappointed; wife and children late, and then they come together. Wealth and officer periods step out and blessing rolls on — the ancestral estate is changed and made new.

A Yang Water (壬) day born at the Metal Ox (辛丑) hour: below is the officer star and above the Direct Resource (印绶); if it runs through the month qi with a southwestern period, officer and Resource (印) support the self and the person is pure and fine. For a Yang Water day at the Metal Ox hour: officer and Resource in their positions. Yang Water takes Yin Earth (己) as its officer and Yin Metal (辛) as its Resource; upon Ox (丑) a Metal frame, and the hidden Yin Earth in its position. If it carries the month qi, the person is pure and fine, the prosperity star (禄) and nobility settled; not carrying it, it governs a nature perverse and crafty. Water Rat (壬子) day at the Metal Ox hour: Snake (巳), Rooster (酉) and Ox months, Direct Resource, much shaded by the parents. A Monkey (申) month with Fire and Earth periods, close to the throne with authority. Dragon (辰), Dog (戌), Ox and Goat (未), having officer and having Resource, ample resources and a broad reach, the name spread to the ends of the earth. Tiger (寅), Horse (午) and Dog months, the wealth broken, and the prosperity star and Resource do not make their frame — ordinary. Pig (亥) and Monkey in year or month, noble. Water Tiger (壬寅) day at the Metal Ox hour: an Ox month, mixed-qi Direct Resource, high. Dragon and Snake, the Killings (煞) strong with nothing to check it, wealth and officer with the self weak, hardship. Water Dragon (壬辰) day at the Metal Ox hour: Dragon, Dog, Ox and Goat, mixed-qi wealth, officer and Direct Resource, all favourable. Spring middling, summer wealth and the prosperity star, autumn favourable with ill within it. Winter, the self strong, and it must run a southern period to show. Water Horse (壬午) day at the Metal Ox hour: The prosperity star and horse in the same country, noble. Summer favourable. Autumn, wealth, officer and Resource complete, also noble. Water Monkey (壬申) day at the Metal Ox hour: Tiger, Rabbit (卯), Pig and Goat in year or month, a graduate and the censorate, office to the second grade, with risings and fallings at the end. Dragon and Dog, ample and sufficient. Monkey and Rooster, enjoying it naturally, and running a northern period also noble. Water Dog (壬戌) day at the Metal Ox hour: a Dragon month, clashing open wealth and officer, noble. Ox and Dog, also favourable. Where the pillars hold Yin Wood (乙), Yin Water (癸) or Rabbit characters, ordinary. Verse: the six Yang Water day stems at the Metal Ox hour — officer and Resource producing each other, everything remarkable; a Horse month running through besides with Metal and Earth strong, holding office pure and noble, certainly unmoved. Verse: a Yang Water day with Metal Ox at the hour — wealth, officer and Direct Resource within it. Know that the key to open the vault runs through; Yang Earth (戊) and Yin Earth meeting, the Fire weighty. Yin Water, Rabbit and Yin Wood lessen the blessing; meeting dragon and tiger clashing. It is only a matter of sooner or later that the gate's manner is changed — wealth and rank receiving favour and bowing to grace.

A Yang Water (壬) day born at the Water Tiger (壬寅) hour: Water and Fire meeting, read as the crossing complete; where Water and Wood months run through, wealth, the prosperity star (禄) and nobility, and not running through with no rescue, an ordinary person. For a Yang Water day at the Water Tiger hour: Water and Fire, the crossing complete. Yang Water uses Yang Fire (丙) as wealth and Yang Wood (甲) as Eating God (食); upon Tiger (寅) the Yang Fire is produced and the Yang Wood strong, and the Yang Water has no qi. If it carries a Water frame with something to lean on, all noble; not carrying it and with no rescue, the blessing is thin. A Water Tiger day is hale and strong and governs great wealth; even not carrying the month qi, still noble. Water Rat (壬子) day at the Water Tiger hour: pure Rat (子), and with no Horse (午) in year or month to clash and break it, it enters the flying to heaven (飞天) pattern, wealth and rank. Tiger, Rabbit (卯), Snake (巳), Monkey (申), Rooster (酉), Dog (戌) and Pig (亥) in year or month, all noble. Water Tiger day at the Water Tiger hour: the Yang Water heading for Gen (壬趋艮) pattern; where Earth (土) is thick, the hills bright and the waters fine, gold at the waist and purple robes. Snake and Pig in year or month, a military office of the third grade, rich, thick, pure and sincere. A Tiger year and Horse month running a northern period, gold and purple. A Snake month with a northwestern period, noble. Dragon (辰), Dog, Ox (丑) and Goat (未), also favourable. Pure Tiger, better still. One account says noble in middle age, a great crisis after fifty. Water Dragon (壬辰) day at the Water Tiger hour: pure Dragon, the Yang Water riding the dragon’s back (壬骑龙背) pattern; with no Yang Fire, Yin Fire (丁), Yang Earth (戊) or Yin Earth (己) at the head of the stems, running a Friend (比肩) period, greatly noble. Pure Tiger, greatly wealthy. Rabbit and Dog months with Wood and Metal periods, third to fifth grade, noble. A Horse month, ordinary. Water Horse (壬午) day at the Water Tiger hour: much illness and calamity in youth. Water Horse, the prosperity star and horse in the same country. Dragon and Tiger in year or month, second grade, noble. Monkey and Rooster, high-minded; and if it carries Wood and Fire, talent and name crowning the age, noble. A Dog month running a southeastern period, a regional post of the highest grade. Water Monkey (壬申) day at the Water Tiger hour: Snake, Rooster and Ox months, a military office of the third grade. Metal Rabbit (辛卯) and Dog months, also noble. Rat and Tiger, greatly noble. One account says poor and then it comes out, and not for long either. Water Dog (壬戌) day at the Water Tiger hour: a Snake month, the Seven Killings (偏官) pattern, his name marked on the golden roll, the self seated in the jade hall. Pure Rat, third grade; Tiger and Rabbit running a northern period, the censorate. Also: the six Yang Water days seeing the Water Tiger hour are named the white-and-empty nobility — not for long, and where it flourishes calamity is born. Verse: the six Yang Water meeting the tiger are floating bubbles — wealth, rank, merit and name are not to be forced; having a Resource (印) and having an officer is the upper pattern, and wealth and the prosperity star come suddenly and are free of grief. Verse: a Yang Water day meeting the Water Tiger hour — Friend meeting the Eating God (食神). Brothers and the order of siblings little in one flock; this is what the hour of birth settles. Sitting on its frame and the period running to officer ground, the self strong, its prosperity star position above the crowd; the self declining, punishment and harm, calamity presses in — a destiny of ordinary clothing and the prosperity star.

A Yang Water (壬) day born at the Water Rabbit (癸卯) hour: led back to ground of death, the force hard to settle; Rob Wealth (劫财), the Killings (煞) and the blade seeing the injuring ghost — with nothing to lean on, read it as an ordinary destiny. For a Yang Water day at the Water Rabbit hour: the self dead and the blade produced. Yang Water takes Yin Water (癸) as its blade, and Rabbit (卯) holds a hidden Yin Wood (乙) that injures the officer-ghost (官鬼). Upon Rabbit the Yin Water is produced, the Yin Wood strong and the Yang Water dead; not carrying a month where the self is strong, with nothing to rescue it or lean on, an early death and low. Snake (巳), Rooster (酉) and Ox (丑) months, the Resource (印) strong and untransformed, the nature perverse, solitary, high and false; running through with the self strong and seeing Metal qi, running a wealth period, noble. Hurting Officer (伤官) injured to the full, running a southern period, also noble. Water Rat (壬子) day at the Water Rabbit hour: Rat (子) and Rabbit punish each other — grief over wife and children; a noble one lifts him, money and cloth to spare, a generous destiny. Water Tiger (壬寅) day at the Water Rabbit hour: turning from wealth and spoiling the prosperity star (禄), now rising and now falling. A Rat year or month, noble. A Snake month — though wealth and officer are punished, still noble. Dragon (辰), Dog (戌), Ox and Goat (未), officer and Killings checking the blade, all favourable. Water Dragon (壬辰) day at the Water Rabbit hour: carrying a month where the self is strong, seeing Earth and Metal to break the blade, running a wealth period, noble. Water Horse (壬午) day at the Water Rabbit hour: the Yang Water dwelling in the Horse (午) position, the prosperity star and horse in the same country, and meeting the Rabbit hour besides — conspicuously noble and coming through. Snake and Horse in year or month, a military office and the censorate. A Yang Water (壬) day born at the Metal Dog (庚戌) hour: the self coming to the wealth vault, yet it is the ghost; the open Yang Metal (庚) and hidden Dog (戌) punish and control each other, and a life's wealth and the prosperity star (禄) gather and scatter much. For a Yang Water day at the Metal Dog hour: the Owl (枭) coming to the wealth vault. Yang Water takes Yang Fire (丙) and Yin Fire (丁) as wealth, vaulted at Dog; Yang Metal is the Overturned Meal (倒食) and Yang Earth (戊) the Seven Killings (偏官). Verse: Yang Water and Yang Metal meeting, born at the Dog hour — the vault holds wealth and officer, locked behind a door; in the end without a head, much reversed, and merit and name at the last are like a floating cloud. Verse: a Yang Water day meeting Metal Dog at the hour — branch and stem, the Overturned Meal, hard to bear. Wealth, officer and Direct Resource (印绶) sealed within the vault; without a key they cannot be taken up. Ox, Rooster and Dragon meeting make blessing, and meeting Yin Fire and Yin Earth (己) besides, a name is made; but it fears control, harm and excessive punishment and clash — a mixed and as-usual destiny.

With no control or breaking, something to lean on, and no wealth or officer in the pillars, wealth, rank and coming to prominence; running an eastern period, greatly noble. If it runs through with qi, the blessing is lessened; a southern period, if not noble then hugely wealthy.
