Yang Metal (Geng, 庚) day master: The Sword

Metal in the 1st month: Wood is at its height, and Earth here is dead and cannot produce Metal; the cold is not yet out of the Metal either. Use Yang Fire (丙) first to warm its nature, and then, wary of thick Earth burying the Metal, Yang Wood (甲) to break and drain it. Yang Fire and Yang Wood both showing means the examinations and honour; either one showing still means advancement; Yang Fire hidden with Yang Wood showing, a name by an irregular road.

正月庚金，木旺之際，有土皆死，不能生金，且金之寒氣未除，先用丙暖庚性，又慮土厚埋金，須甲疏洩，丙甲兩透，科甲顯榮，二者透一，亦有生監，丙藏甲透，異路功名。

Metal in the 2nd month: there is naturally a Yin Wood (乙) in the chart, and a Yin Wood in season meeting Yang Metal (庚) will keep its affections — which gives this Metal a hidden strength, read as autumn Metal is read. So the 2nd month uses Yin Fire (丁) in particular, borrowing Yang Wood (甲) to light the Yin Fire and Yang Metal to split the Yang Wood. Where there is no Yin Fire and Yang Fire (丙) is used, wealth and rank mostly come of forcing them.

二月庚金，柱中自然有乙，當令之乙，見庚必留情於乙，此金有暗強之勢，如秋金一理，故二月庚金，專用丁火，借甲引丁，借庚劈甲，無丁用丙者，富貴多出於勉強。

Metal in the 3rd month: Yang Earth (戊) holds the season, so there is no producing of Metal, only the risk of burying it. Yang Wood (甲) first, Yin Fire (丁) after, and no Yang Metal (庚) used to split the Yang Wood. In this month the Earth is strong and the Metal blunt: blunt Metal wants Yin Fire, strong Earth wants Yang Wood. Without Yang Wood no undertaking stands; without Yin Fire no name is made. One of them missing and wealth and rank are not real. Metal without Fire means an early death if not poverty; a weak self with much wealth means wealth and rank that do not last.

三月庚金，戊土司令，無生金之理，有埋金之憂，故先甲後丁，不用庚劈甲，三月之庚，土旺金頑，頑金宜丁，旺土須甲，乏甲不能立業，乏丁焉能成名，二者少一，富貴不真，庚金無火，非夭則貧，身弱才多，富貴不久。

Metal in the 4th month has its Birth (長生) at Snake (巳), and Snake holds Yang Earth (戊) within it, so Yang Fire (丙) does not melt the Metal and the heat is not feared — Yang Fire can even be used. But Yang Water (壬) comes first, and only then is there balance. So it is said: Metal born in summer welcomes the Hook Array (勾陳). Take Yang Earth next, with Yang Fire in support. All three present means a place in the examinations; even one or two showing is not a commoner.

四月庚金，長生於巳，巳內有戊，丙不熔金，故不畏火炎，丙亦可作用，但先壬水，方得中和，故曰群金生夏，喜用勾陳，次取戊土，丙火佐之，三者皆全，登科及第，即透一二，亦非白丁。

Metal in the 5th month: Yin Fire (丁) is strong and fierce and the Metal is in its ruined ground. Use Yang Water (壬) in particular, with Yin Water (癸) after it.

五月庚金，丁火旺烈，庚金敗地，專用壬水，癸又次之。

Metal in the 6th month: the cold begins in the dog days and the Metal is as blunt as it gets. Use Yin Fire (丁) first, then take Yang Wood (甲).

六月庚金，三伏生寒，頑鈍極矣，先用丁火，次取甲木。

Metal in the 7th month is as hard and sharp as it gets. Use Yin Fire (丁) in particular to forge it, and take Wood next to carry the Yin Fire. Hence the verse: autumn Metal at its sharpest is the rare thing, and meeting Yang Water (壬) or Yin Water (癸) never suits it; if Wood and Fire come to form a frame, look then at fortune and long life together. Yin Fire and Yang Wood (甲) both showing means a certain rise; Yin Fire without Yang Wood, a fine talent; Yang Wood without Yin Fire, an ordinary man; neither, a useless thing, fit only to idle at another's gate.

七月庚金，剛銳極矣，專用丁火煆煉，次取木引丁，故曰，秋金銳銳最為奇，壬癸相逢總不宜，如逢木火來成局，試看福壽與天齊，如得丁甲兩透，定步青雲，若有丁無甲為俊秀，有甲無丁是平人，丁甲兩無無用物，只堪門下作閒人。

Metal in the 8th month: hard and sharp, with the branches receding. Use Yin Fire (丁) and Yang Wood (甲), and Yang Fire (丙) cannot be spared. With Yin Fire and Yang Wood showing and a Yang Fire as well, a brilliant name; and with the Yang Blade (羊刃) present, unbroken by clash or punishment, and the Yang Fire Killings (殺) hidden in a branch, it is called a general and a minister (羊刃架殺), upright and loyal.

八月庚金，剛銳支退，用丁甲，丙不可少，若丁甲透，又見一丙，功名顯赫，且見羊刃無刑衝，丙殺藏支，名為羊刃架殺，主出將入相，直介忠臣。

Metal in the 9th month: Yang Earth (戊) holds the season, and what is most feared is thick Earth burying the Metal. Use Yang Wood (甲) first to break it up, then Yang Water (壬) to wash it, and the Metal comes out of itself. Avoid Yin Earth (己), which muddies the Yang Water.

九月庚金，戊土司令，最怕土厚埋金，宜先用甲疏，後用壬洗，則金自出矣，忌見己土濁壬。

Metal in the 10th month: the Water is cold and so is the nature. Nothing but Yin Fire (丁) shapes it, and nothing but Yang Fire (丙) warms it.

十月庚金，水冷性寒，非丁莫造，非丙不暖。

Metal in the 11th month: the season is bitter cold. Still take Yin Fire (丁) and Yang Wood (甲), then Yang Fire (丙) to shine warm on it. Yin Fire and Yang Wood both showing with Yang Fire in a branch means the examinations for certain; even without Yang Fire there is a livelihood. Yin Fire without Yang Wood still allows rank taken out of wealth; Yang Wood without Yin Fire makes an ordinary person. Yang Fire showing with Yin Fire hidden means standing by an irregular road; Yin Fire hidden with a Yang Wood allows a military school.

十一月庚金，天氣嚴寒，仍取丁甲，次取丙火照暖，或丁甲兩透，丙在支中，必主科甲，即無丙火，亦有衣衿，有丁無甲，亦可富中取貴，有甲無丁，只作常人，或丙透丁藏，異途名望，丁藏有甲，武學可許。

Metal in the 12th month: the cold is heavy and the clay wet, and the colder it is the harder it freezes. Take Yang Fire (丙) first to thaw it, then Yin Fire (丁) to forge the Metal, and Yang Wood (甲) cannot be spared either.

十二月庚金，寒氣太重，且多濕泥，愈寒愈凍，先取丙火解凍，次取丁火煉金，甲亦不可少。

A Yang Metal (庚) day born at the Fire Rat (丙子) hour: self and ghost both in decline, the retreating spirit strong; with something to lean on, glory — without it, low; and the ghost meeting production and strength, long life is hard. For a Yang Metal day at the Fire Rat hour: self and ghost both declining and weak. Yang Metal takes Yin Water (癸) as Hurting Officer (伤) and Yang Fire (丙) as ghost. Upon Rat (子) the Yang Metal dies, the Yang Fire has no qi and the Yin Water is hale and strong. If the self has something to lean on, favourable; without it, and running a period where the self declines and the ghost is strong, blown about, dying young and low. Carrying a month of Fire qi it should run a western period, noble — not so if the self is weak. Metal Rat (庚子) day at the Fire Rat hour: noble. With Rat again in year or month and a clash besides, the Yin Fire (丁) within Horse (午) is officer and the Yin Earth (己) is Resource (印) — the Flying Prosperity Horse (飞天禄马) pattern; with no wealth or officer in the pillars to fill it in solid, it governs nobility; as a monk or priest, not a speck of dust upon him and all methods complete; as a common man, name and profit, with punishment and injury to wife and children. One account says poor first and rich after. It dislikes an Earth Snake (己巳) month, breaking, punishment, poverty; a Water Goat (癸未) month, solitude; Snake (巳) and Pig (亥) months, punishment. Metal Tiger (庚寅) day at the Fire Rat hour: born in spring, carrying wealth and carrying the Killings (煞), running Metal and Water periods, gold and purple. Summer, the Killings strong, greatly noble. Autumn, the self strong, and it must run a southern period, noble. Winter, self and ghost both weak, ordinary. Pure Horse in year and month, a position reaching duke or minister. Water Rat (壬子), the Eating God (食) in front and the Killings behind following; after the one yang is born, the Yang Fire has qi — noble to the highest of ministers. It dislikes a Water Rooster (癸酉) month, ruin, ill; a Metal Pig (辛亥) month, spilt blood; a Wood Rat (甲子) month, early death. Metal Dragon (庚辰) day at the Fire Rat hour: where the month carries Wood and Fire qi and it runs a western period, excellent. A Wood Snake (乙巳) month, ruin, punishment. A Fire Rooster (丁酉) month, punishment in the midst of strength, ill. An Earth Ox (己丑) month, ruin, ill. Metal Horse (庚午) day at the Fire Rat hour: noble. Hour and day clash — grief over wife and children; the period is glad of southwest, and carrying a month of Fire and Wood qi, the censorate at the third or fourth grade. Born in autumn the Yang Fire has no qi and children are hard to come by. It dislikes an Earth Snake month, breaking the ancestors, ill; an Earth Pig (己亥) month, robbed by thieves, ill; a Water Ox (癸丑) month, solitude. Metal Monkey (庚申) day at the Fire Rat hour: a Monkey (申) month, born where Earth (土) is thick, noble. Dragon (辰) and Goat (未) in year or month running a western Metal period, then favourable. A Metal Snake (辛巳) month, cruel punishment. A Metal Pig month, solitary and short-lived. Metal Dog (庚戌) day at the Fire Rat hour: born in spring or summer with a southwestern period; an autumn month with Wood and Fire periods — both noble. It dislikes a Wood Snake month, ill and breaking; a Wood Pig (乙亥) month, much official calamity and cruel punishment; an Earth Ox month, ruin, ill; an Earth Dog (戊戌) month, a bad death. Verse: a Yang Metal day meeting the Fire Rat hour — Hurting Officer (伤官) binding into a frame is not remarkable; both parents and the ancestral estate are hard to bring to anything, and the swallow's rest and the phoenix's perch set up another footing. Verse: a Yang Metal day meeting Fire Rat at the hour — punishing the officer and turning from the prosperity star (禄), it settles the self. Both parents harmed and sunk, hard and bitter early; the order of siblings cannot be kept smooth. Giving up study for trade, blessing comes out; the farm and village lazy after and diligent first. Dwelling at home, money and cloth are made only late — a destiny dark first and bright after.

A Yang Metal (庚) day born at the Fire Ox (丁丑) hour: on noble ground it meets the officer, and the Fire is too light; where Wood and Fire run through in the period, a guest of carriage and cap — not running through and standing alone, only an empty name. For a Yang Metal day at the Fire Ox hour: the Metal heavy and the Fire light. Yang Metal takes Yin Fire (丁) as its officer and Yin Earth (己) as its Resource (印); upon Ox (丑) the Yin Fire's qi is light and the Yin Earth in its proper position. If it carries a month of Wood and Fire qi, officer and Resource meet production and strength, noble; not carrying it, an empty name and no more. Carrying a month where Fire and Earth are produced and strong, wealthy; not carrying it, meeting it in the period still governs a name and repute. Metal Rat (庚子) day at the Fire Ox hour: spring and summer, noble; autumn ordinary; winter solitary and harmed. Metal Tiger (庚寅) day at the Fire Ox hour: first in the lists. Tiger (寅), Rabbit (卯), Horse (午), Goat (未) and Pig (亥) months, a pure and fine high destiny. Running Horse and Goat periods, conspicuously noble. Carrying Fire and Earth in year or month, noble. Metal Dragon (庚辰) day at the Fire Ox hour: an Ox month, wealthy and the life short. Yin Earth, close to the throne, greatly noble. Carrying a month where Fire is strong and Earth produced, noble; not getting it, meeting it in the period is still wealthy, with a name and repute. Metal Horse (庚午) day at the Fire Ox hour: carrying a month of Earth qi, noble; if not, still wealthy, with a name and repute. Verse: a Yang Metal day meeting Fire Ox at the hour — Direct Officer (正官) and the wealth vault following together. Horse, Goat and Dog months, blessing to spare; the Yang Metal takes the hour meeting the golden cabinet. Metal meeting Fire and made into a vessel, it certainly shades the children and enfeoffs the wife. From of old, song and wine are not parted from it — it certainly governs an easeful and glad intent.

A Yang Metal (庚) day born at the Earth Tiger (戊寅) hour: Fire produced and Metal cut off, a person of high blessing; where the month runs through the Metal formation (从革), or born in autumn, he becomes a pillar-and-plinth minister of the royal house. For a Yang Metal day at the Earth Tiger hour: Fire produced and Metal cut off. Yang Metal takes Yang Fire (丙) as its ghost and Yang Earth (戊) as the Overturned Meal (倒食). Upon Tiger (寅) there is an open Yang Earth binding the Yin Water (癸) and transforming to Fire, and the Yang Metal's qi is cut off. If it does not carry a month where Metal is strong and has nothing to rescue it, early death, low and poor. Autumn, the Metal strong, mostly noble — but it dislikes the hour meeting the Loss Spirit (亡) and Rob Wealth (劫), which control the self and are ill. Metal Monkey (庚申) day at the Earth Tiger hour: hour and day clash together — grief over wife and children. Tiger, Rabbit (卯) and Dragon (辰) months with Fire and Metal periods, marquis or earl. A spring month with a southwestern period, greatly noble. A Tiger month, conspicuously noble but not for long. One account says punished first and favourable after. Metal Dog (庚戌) day at the Earth Tiger hour: noble. A Dog month, mixed-qi wealth, officer and Direct Resource (印绶), noble. A Metal Dragon year with an Earth Rabbit (己卯) month, marquis or earl. Verse: the Tiger hour on a Yang Metal day is much to be praised — with no punishment, control or breaking it shows its glory; when the period comes there is naturally a high person to help, and the hour arriving is like adding flowers to brocade. Verse: a Yang Metal day at the Earth Tiger hour, fine — the woven Resource (印) and the Overturned Meal hard to gather. In youth he has not met his chance; do not grieve at heart, for this destiny is either poor or rich. When the hour arrives money comes and blessing comes; when the period comes, a boat running with the water. In the month, Metal and Water suit each other the more — with nothing broken, name and merit are made.

A Yang Metal (庚) day born at the Earth Rabbit (己卯) hour: the origin destiny in conception, coming out through the wife; with something to lean on in the pillars and meeting Yang Metal strong, wealth and the prosperity star (禄) ample and full, blessing and long life together. For a Yang Metal day at the Earth Rabbit hour: the origin destiny in conception. Yang Metal receives conception upon Rabbit (卯), and seeing Snake (巳) is the living qi Direct Resource (印绶). Yang Metal takes Yin Wood (乙) as wealth, and Rabbit holds a strong Yin Wood — blessing comes out through the wife. If the pillars have a strong Yin Fire (丁) and the month of birth carries the prosperity star, noble; with something to lean on, wealthy. Carrying living qi with the wealth strong, or running a period where wealth is strong, both noble. Metal Rat (庚子) day at the Earth Rabbit hour: Rat (子) and Rabbit punish each other — grief over wife and children; a Rat year or month, noble. Ox (丑) and Goat (未), office to the third grade. One account says breaking the ancestors and losing the Earth (土), the land, greatly noble. Metal Tiger (庚寅) day at the Earth Rabbit hour: Pig (亥) and Rabbit months, the wealth-star pattern, glory early and retiring early. Horse (午) and Dog (戌), the triad binding an officer frame, with Metal and Water showing at the stems, running a northwestern period, favourable. Metal Dragon (庚辰) day at the Earth Rabbit hour: solitary. Where year and month carry Wood qi and there is something to lean on, noble. Metal Horse (庚午) day at the Earth Rabbit hour: punishment and breaking. Monkey (申), Rat, Dragon (辰), Yin Earth (己), Rooster (酉) and Ox all running a southeastern period, noble. Tiger (寅), Horse, Dog, Pig, Rabbit and Goat must get a northwestern period to be fine. Metal Monkey (庚申) day at the Earth Rabbit hour: a Rabbit month, the wealth-star pattern; if not noble then wealthy. Ox and Snake in year or month, the academy, pure and noble, office to vice-minister. One account says poor when young, a small calamity in middle age, harming the wife and few children. Metal Dog (庚戌) day at the Earth Rabbit hour: solitary young and the mother low, noble in middle age. Rabbit, Rooster, Dragon and Ox months, office to duke or minister. Verse: the heaven-origin Yang Metal and Yin Earth, the Rabbit hour joined — the prosperity star seen with the writing, wealth and rank complete; with no punishment, clash, control or breaking in the four pillars, a noble one takes him up to the blue sky. Verse: a Yang Metal day meeting Earth Rabbit at the hour — wealth and officer, the period qi running through. If there is no punishment or clash, certainly praise and enfeoffment; with a breaking, middle age is not smooth. The order of siblings and the six relations are hard to lean on; making his household himself, without end. When the hour comes he comes out and shows his merit and name — and naturally has a high person to draw him up.

A Yang Metal (庚) day born at the Fire Dog (丙戌) hour: Metal and Fire holding and contending, matters not auspicious; the self strong and the month running through the Direct Resource (印绶), favourable — not running through and with no rescue, calamity is hard to bear. For a Yang Metal day at the Fire Dog hour: Metal and Fire holding and contending. Yang Metal takes Yang Fire (丙) as its ghost, and Yang Fire with Yang Earth (戊) binds into a frame, so the Metal has no qi. If it runs through with the self strong and the Resource (印), and a Rabbit (卯) month with something to rescue it, noble; the reverse of this is ordinary, or an early death and low. A period running through is also favourable. Yang Metal belongs to the large intestine; if Yang Fire and Yin Fire (丁) are very strong, it governs piles, fistula, internal poison, and calamity of pus and blood. Verse: the Dog hour, the officer vault, is the first of all — Ox and Dog punishing each other, the vault opens of itself; at first and in middle age there is no coming to prominence, and at the last the evening scene answers his heart. Verse: a Yang Metal day meeting Fire Dog at the hour — Seven Killings buried in the granary and vault. Within it the ghost and the thief do not answer; the self weak, money and cloth emptily wasted. The period strong and the self robust, blessing comes out; the order of siblings and flesh and blood at odds. The wife taken twice and the children late escape punishment and injury — and in the evening scene he is enfeoffed and made a minister.

A Yang Metal (庚) day born at the Fire Pig (丁亥) hour: the officer star loses its ground and the self declines; not running through the month qi it is hard to make blessing, and if a Kui Gang days (魁罡) is seen it is excellent after all. For a Yang Metal day at the Fire Pig hour: Yang Metal takes Yang Wood (甲) as wealth, Yang Water (壬) as Eating God (食) and Yin Fire (丁) as officer. Upon Pig (亥) the Yin Fire has no qi, the Yang Water is strong and produces the Yang Wood, and the Yang Metal has lost its ground and can hardly bear wealth and Eating God. If it does not carry a month where the self is strong, it cannot make blessing; carrying the month qi with yin Earth to support the self, money comes out. The officer star having help, a little noble.
