Yin Metal (Xin, 辛) day master: The Jewel

Metal in the 1st month: the warm force stretches out but the cold is not gone. Note that the 1st month is built on Tiger (寅), which holds the Birth (長生) of Yang Fire (丙), and that clears the cold away. What to avoid is Yang Wood (甲) holding power, which puts Yin Metal (辛) out of season. Take Yin Earth (己) as the root of the self; and for the Yin Metal to show at all it depends entirely on Yang Water (壬). Yin Earth and Yang Water both showing, with a Yang Metal (庚) in the branches to check the Yang Wood, means the examinations for certain. Yin Earth showing with a Yang Wood in the branches, honour by an irregular road. Where the Yin Earth is incomplete it is called ruler and minister both out of position, and wealth and rank do not come whole. Yang Water present with neither Yin Earth nor Yang Metal means poverty and low standing.

正月辛金，陽氣舒而寒未除，不知正月建寅，中有長生之丙，解去寒氣，忌甲木司權，辛金失令，取己土為身之本，欲得辛金發現，全賴壬水之功，己壬兩透，支見庚制甲，科甲定然，或己土透干，支中有甲，異路恩榮，或己土不全，號曰君臣失勢，富貴難全，或有丙火出乾，亦主武學，或見壬，無己庚者，貧賤之徒。

Metal in the 2nd month: a mild season, and Yang Water (壬) is the one to honour. Yang Earth (戊) or Yin Earth (己) present is the sickness, and Yang Wood (甲) is wanted to subdue it — then the Yin Metal (辛) is not buried and the Yang Water is not muddied, and a chart like that enters the halls of state. So a 2nd-month Yang Metal and Metal (庚金) — the text's slip for Yin Metal — with Yang Water and Yang Wood showing is honoured and prominent, and failing that, a person of local standing. A Yang Water seated on Pig (亥) with no Earth showing can enter the school and keep a modest household; the Yang Water held inside Monkey (申) means standing by an irregular road; no Yang Water at all, an ordinary person.

二月辛金，陽和之際，壬水為尊，見戊己為病，得甲制伏，則辛金不致埋沒，壬水不致混濁，合此者必身入玉堂，故二月庚金，有壬甲透者貴顯，不則，鄉紳，或壬坐亥支，不見土出，可能入芥，家亦小康，得申中之壬者，異途名望，無壬者常人，其生克之理，與正月辛金皆同。

Metal in the 3rd month: Yang Earth (戊) holds the season, and the Yin Metal (辛) receives the proper force — the mother strong and the child thriving. Yang Water (壬) first, Yang Wood (甲) after. Both showing means wealth and rank for certain; Yang Water showing with Yang Wood hidden still keeps a stipend; Yang Wood showing with Yang Water hidden, wealth and rank may be spoken of. Neither, an ordinary chart.

三月辛金，戊土司令，辛承正氣，母旺子相，先壬後甲，壬甲兩透，富貴必然，壬透甲藏，廩貢不失，甲透壬藏，富貴可云，壬甲皆無，平常之格。

Metal in the 4th month: the head of summer. What it dislikes is the scorching of Yang Fire (丙); what it welcomes is being washed by Yang Water (壬). With a Metal frame in the branches and Water showing in the stems, and Wood to check the Yang Earth (戊), it is called clear to the bottom — the examinations and a name. Yin Water (癸) showing with Yang Water hidden means the wealth real and the rank false. Yang Water and Yin Water both hidden with Yang Earth and Yin Earth (己) hidden too, a modest fortune. Neither Yang Water nor Yin Water, and Fire showing instead, means a solitary life.

四月辛金，時道首夏，忌丙火之燥烈，喜壬水之洗淘，支成金局，水透出乾，有木制戊，名一清澈底，科甲功名，癸透壬藏，富真貴假，若壬癸皆藏，戊己亦藏，略富，若壬癸俱無，反見火出，必主鰥獨。

Metal in the 5th month: Yin Fire (丁) holds power, the Yin Metal (辛) is out of season, yin and soft in the extreme, and not to be forged. Yin Earth (己) and Yang Water (壬) must be used together — because Yin Earth is silt and Yang Water is lake and sea: without Yang Water the Yin Earth is not moist, and without Yin Earth the Yin Metal is not produced. So Yang Water and Yin Earth both. Without Yang Water, Yin Water (癸) will serve, though its force is small. If the branches form a Fire frame, even repeated Yin Water showing does not answer, and only a Yang Water showing to break the Fire will do — that means a licentiate. Without Yang Water, and Yin Water meeting Yang Earth (戊), then even with the Yin Earth of the Horse (午) palace the baked clay turns to ash: the Metal must melt and is buried instead, and this is a life in religion. One or two companion stems keep it from solitude.

五月辛金，丁火司權，辛金失令，陰柔之極，不宜煆煉，須己壬兼用，何也，己為泥沙，壬為湖海，己無壬不濕，辛無己不生，故壬己並用，無壬，癸亦可用，但癸力小，或支成火局，即重見癸出，亦不濟，得壬透破火方可，必主生員，若無壬，癸見戊，雖有午宮己土，燥泥成灰，金必煆熔，反遭埋沒，必為僧道，有一二重比肩，不致孤獨。

Metal in the 6th month: Yin Earth (己) is in power, and with too much assisting it the light of the Metal risks being covered. Use Yang Water (壬) first, with Yang Metal (庚) in support. Both showing means the examinations and a name; even not showing in the stems, well placed in the branches, there is still prosperity. But avoid Yang Earth (戊) showing — Yang Wood (甲) is needed to check it, and only then is it fortunate. The Yang Wood must stand a place away, or it may be greedy to join the Yin Earth and cover the Metal's light instead.

六月辛金，己土當權，輔助太多，恐掩金光，先用壬水，取庚佐之，壬庚兩透，科甲功名，即不出乾，藏支得所，亦有榮華，但忌戊出，得甲制之，方吉，甲須隔位，恐貪己合，反掩金光，又寒壬水之流，下賤之格，又忌庚出制甲，或只有未中一己，見子壬水，又為濕泥，不可見甲，甲出，反作平人，總以一壬一己，見庚無甲，方妙，與五月用己壬同。

Metal in the 7th month: Yang Metal (庚) holds the season, so the Yin Metal (辛) is strong without being in season, and the Yang Water (壬) sits in Monkey (申). If the chart shows no Yang Earth (戊), the conception pillar (胎元) has a Yang Earth hidden inside Monkey to serve as Yang Water's bank. A person with this is clean and upright in office — but not rich.

七月辛金，值庚司令，不旺自旺，且壬水居申，四柱不見戊土，胎元戊藏申內，為壬岸，人命得此，為官清正，但不富耳。

Metal in the 8th month: in power and in season, strong in the extreme. Use Yang Water (壬) in particular to wash it, and hence the saying that Metal meeting Water flows freely. Yang Earth (戊) or Yin Earth (己) present supports it too far, so Earth is the sickness here, and a Yang Wood (甲) to check the Earth is what makes it fine. Without Yang Earth, Yang Wood should not be used.

八月辛金，當權得令，旺之極矣，專用壬水淘洗，故云金見水以流通，如見戊己，則生扶太過，故以土為病，見甲制土，方妙，無戊，不宜用甲。

Metal in the 9th month: Earth holds the season, the mother strong and the child thriving. Yang Wood (甲) is needed to break the Earth up and Yang Water (壬) to drain the strong Metal — Yang Water first, Yang Wood after. Both showing means an immortal's place. Yang Water showing with Yang Wood hidden, and others present, an ordinary person; Yang Wood showing with Yang Water hidden and a Yang Earth (戊) in the branches, office by an irregular road.

九月辛金，成土司令，母旺子相，須甲疏土，壬洩旺金，先壬後甲，壬甲兩透，桃洞之仙，或壬透甲藏，又見者，平人，甲透，壬藏，戊在支內，異途之仕。

Metal in the 10th month: the small yang of the season, the warm force rising, the cold about to come down. Use Yang Water (壬) first, then take Yang Fire (丙). Both showing means a name on the roll — because Yin Metal (辛) with Yang Water and Yang Fire is called Metal white and Water clear, and being in the Pig (亥) month it comes out.

十月辛金，時值小陽，陽漸升，寒氣將降，先用壬水，次取丙火，壬丙兩透，金榜題名，何也，蓋辛金有壬水丙火，名金白水清，又在亥月故發。

Metal in the 11th month: Yin Water (癸) holds the season, the rain and dew of deep winter. What must be avoided is Yin Water showing and freezing the Metal, which also traps the Yang Fire (丙). Yang Water (壬) and Yang Fire both showing, with no Yang Earth (戊) or Yin Water, means silk robes and a gold belt; even Yang Water hidden with Yang Fire showing, a place on the roll is within reach.

十一月辛金，癸水司令，為寒冬雨露，切忌癸出凍金，而困丙火，壬丙兩透，不見戊癸，衣錦腰金，即壬藏丙透，一榜堪圖。

Metal in the 12th month: cold and frozen in the extreme. Yang Fire (丙) first, Yang Water (壬) after — the Yang Fire cannot thaw it alone, and without Yang Water there is no washing. Both showing means a place at court; both hidden, a student living on a stipend. Yang Fire without Yang Water means the wealth real and the rank false; Yang Water without Yang Fire, low and poor as well. Much Yang Fire with no Yang Water but a Yin Water (癸) means a trader in the market.

十二月辛金，寒凍之極，先丙後壬，炳不能解凍，無壬不能洗淘，丙壬兩透，金馬玉堂之客，壬丙俱藏，游庠食　之人，有丙無壬，富真貴假，有壬乏丙，賤而且貧，或丙多，無壬，有癸，市中貿易之流。

A Yin Metal (辛) day born at the Earth Rat (戊子) hour: Direct Resource (印绶) and the hall of learning sitting on the Eating God (食神); with no Yang Fire (丙), Yin Fire (丁) or Horse (午) to break it, certainly a person of glory, wealth and conspicuous nobility. For a Yin Metal day at the Earth Rat hour: the six yin facing the sun (六阴朝阳). Yin Metal has its long life and hall of learning upon Rat (子). Yin Metal takes Yang Earth (戊) as its Resource (印) and Yin Water (癸) as its Eating God (食); at the hour the Yang Earth is open and the Yin Water hidden. Where the pillars show no Yang Fire, Yin Fire or Horse character to clash it open, and it carries a month where the self is strong, greatly noble; offending them, not noble. Not carrying the month qi but running through in the period, also noble. Metal Ox (辛丑) day at the Earth Rat hour: an Ox (丑) month, mixed-qi wealth and officer, noble. Pure Ox, a Confucian post. Pure Dragon (辰) running a western period, the chief censor. A Rooster (酉) month with a northeastern period, noble. It dislikes a Metal Tiger (庚寅) month, the branded face, ill; a Water Goat (癸未) month, taking punishment; a Water Ox (癸丑) month, ruin, solitude and ill. Metal Rabbit (辛卯) day at the Earth Rat hour: born in spring, Tiger (寅) poor and Rabbit (卯) noble. Summer, pure and noble. Autumn, the Yang Blade (羊刃), no profit. Winter wealthy, and an Ox month better still. Dragon, Dog (戌) and Goat (未) months, wealth, officer and Direct Resource all favourable. The Shen Bai Jing (神白经) says: Metal and Fire transforming govern nobility. It dislikes a Metal Rabbit month, the parents dying ill; a Metal Snake (辛巳) month, greatly ill; a Water Monkey (壬申) month, dying with the body not whole. Metal Snake day at the Earth Rat hour: Tiger, Snake (巳) and Horse months, Direct Officer (正官), conspicuously noble. Pig (亥) and Rat, Hurting Officer (伤官), few children and many wives. Rabbit and Dog, fifth grade, noble. The Shen Bai Jing says: the Metal transformed image governs nobility. It dislikes a Fire Tiger (丙寅) month, punishment, level; a Wood Snake (乙巳) month, poor at first; a Fire Rooster (丁酉) month, early death. Metal Goat (辛未) day at the Earth Rat hour: noble. Tiger, Snake, Horse and Rooster in year or month with Fire and Wood periods, noble. Pig and Rat, the academy. Dragon, Dog, Ox and Goat, mixed-qi wealth, officer and Resource, all favourable. It dislikes a Metal Monkey (庚申) month, dying with the body not whole; a Water Rat (壬子) month, solitary and ill; a Water Ox month, death by cruel punishment. Metal Rooster (辛酉) day at the Earth Rat hour: born in Rat or Rooster months with no Yang Fire or Yin Fire, and not running a southern period, third or fourth grade, noble; it injures wife and children; a military office with weighty authority. The Shen Bai Jing says: Metal and Fire transforming govern nobility, and it comes out after breaking the ancestors. It dislikes a Water Tiger (壬寅) month, a bad death; a Metal Snake month, great ruin and ill to the ancestors; a Metal Dog (庚戌) month, a bad death. The six Yin Metal days meeting the Earth Rat hour are called the pure and conspicuous qi of the heavenly court. Metal Rooster and Metal Pig (辛亥) getting it are highest. It dislikes a Fire Tiger month, dying without a whole body; a Fire Monkey (丙申) month, losing the home village and a bad death; a Fire Rooster month, loss and a bad death. Metal Pig day at the Earth Rat hour: if not noble then wealthy. A Pig month with no officer, Hurting Officer injured to the full, blessing comes out and the children are few. Spring and summer, Pig, Rat and Ox with Wood and Fire period frames, gold and purple and the censorate. Verse: the heaven-origin, the six Yin Metal, born at the Rat hour — a spring sky, the flowers open bright and clear; if Yang Fire, Snake, Horse and Yin Fire should break and spoil it, merit and name are hard to hope for and come only late. Verse: a Yin Metal day meeting Earth Rat at the hour — the six yin gathering and binding, facing the yang. The Metal Spirit (金神) and Direct Resource show their awe and light, helping the whole self to glory and strength. Snake and Horse meeting it lessen the blessing; Yang Fire parts the order of siblings from the honoured hall. Wife and children diligently help the household village strong — with nothing broken, a general or minister from a cold gate.

A Yin Metal (辛) day born at the Earth Ox (己丑) hour: Metal and Earth holding and contending, the force unquiet; with wealth and officer in year and month to rescue it, he escapes crossing into poverty and hunger and cold. For a Yin Metal day at the Earth Ox hour: Metal and Earth contending. Yin Metal takes Yin Earth (己) as its Overturned Meal (倒食); upon Ox (丑) there is an open Yin Earth and a hidden Yin Metal. Where year and month have no wealth or officer to rescue it, poor and hard-pressed; getting a wealth or officer period, also favourable. Metal Ox (辛丑) day at the Earth Ox hour: solitary, turbid and halting in life. Monkey (申) and Rooster (酉) months, the Metal strong, and running to a country of Fire it is loosened through, with punishment and injury to wife and children; as a monk or priest, noble. Within it the golden cabinet is tightly watched and shut; Horse, Goat and Dog open it and it is made. Yang Wood (甲), Yang Fire (丙), Rabbit and Tiger bring blessing out; Yin Water (癸), Yang Water (壬), Pig and Rat set it adrift. In youth what he plans is hard to come round; in the middle and later years the road ahead is his own.

A Yin Metal (辛) day born at the Metal Tiger (庚寅) hour: the wealth strong producing the officer, meeting the noble spirit; where Metal and Wood in the frame run through the month qi, certainly a person of glory, nobility and wealth. For a Yin Metal day at the Metal Tiger hour: the noble one, wealth and officer. Yin Metal takes Tiger (寅) as its Nobleman (天乙) noble, Yang Fire (丙) as officer and Yang Wood (甲) as wealth; upon Tiger the Yang Fire and Yang Wood are strong. If it carries a month of Metal and Wood qi, or runs through in the period, it governs wealth, rank and coming to prominence. Metal Ox (辛丑) day at the Metal Tiger hour: spring noble; summer, the officer strong; autumn, coming to prominence; winter favourable. An Ox (丑) month with a southern period, the censorate or military nobility. One account says it comes out and then wind ailments. Where year and month are Rooster (酉) and Monkey (申) Metal with no Fire qi, poor and short-lived. Metal Rabbit (辛卯) day at the Metal Tiger hour: Horse (午), Goat (未), Pig (亥) and Rat (子), all noble. Tiger, Rabbit (卯), Monkey and Rooster, sixth or seventh grade, noble. Metal Snake (辛巳) day at the Metal Tiger hour: spring noble; summer, officer and the prosperity star (禄), running a northwestern period, greatly noble; autumn, the self strong; winter, violent and fierce. One account says wealth after punishment. Metal Goat (辛未) day at the Metal Tiger hour: Snake (巳), Goat and Ox months, his name marked on the golden roll, the wife worthy and the children filial, wind ailments in later years. Tiger, Rabbit, Horse and Dog (戌), all favourable. Metal Rooster (辛酉) day at the Metal Tiger hour: noble. Spring, wealth gathers; summer, officer and the prosperity star made; autumn, the self strong; Pig, Rat, Ox, Dog, Horse and Rooster in year or month, all noble. Metal Pig (辛亥) day at the Metal Tiger hour: noble, and it governs a hidden ailment. With Yang Fire showing at the stems, it comes out. Horse, Rooster, Tiger and Pig in year or month with a southern period, noble. Verse: the days of the six Yin Metal meeting the Tiger hour — wealth strong producing the officer, reckoned each from the other; the period poor, profit and name should halt and stick, and running wealth and the prosperity star there is nothing more to fear. Verse: a Yin Metal day meeting the Metal Tiger hour — brothers and flesh and blood grow distant. Both parents and the ancestral estate are hard to lean on and make; the mandarin-duck pair go against the mirror in middle age. Pig, Yin Water (癸), Kan, the north (坎) and Yang Water (壬) lessen the blessing; Yang Fire, Yin Fire (丁), Snake and Horse make his name run. Born in spring or produced in winter the noble respect him — a destiny of glory in the middle and later years.

A Yin Metal (辛) day born at the Metal Rabbit (辛卯) hour: wife and children hard to keep, meeting the Friend (比肩); produced in autumn or born in winter, a poor and low pattern — and Yang Fire (丙) coming to the Tiger (寅) horse holds authority after all. For a Yin Metal day at the Metal Rabbit hour: the Friend dividing the wealth. The heaven-origin binding and transforming shows its light, the post weighty, the name high, with force and power. A gentleman's writing stands above; a common man's household base is glorious and strong. The hour of birth truly settled, there is no want in it — the period is glad of southwest and eastern ground.

A Yin Metal (辛) day born at the Fire Rooster (丁酉) hour: the ghost breaking the prosperity star (禄), calamity a hundredfold; with something to lean on and the self robust it may be judged favourable, and where the month runs through with something to check it, that is the Seven Killings (偏官). For a Yin Metal day at the Fire Rooster hour: Fire and Metal holding and contending. Yin Metal upon Rooster (酉) is hale and strong, and seeing Yin Fire (丁) is the proper ghost; upon Rooster the Yin Fire has its long life and breaks the prosperity star, so the blessing is not made and it is made and unmade over again. The self robust, carrying the month qi and with something to check it, read as Seven Killings; and running a period where the self is strong besides, noble. A Yin Metal (辛) day born at the Earth Dog (戊戌) hour: the Direct Resource (印绶) producing the self and sitting on the prosperity star (禄) hall; with something to lean on, a person of blessing hard to lean on his ancestors, and not running through the month qi it is ordinary. Metal Pig (辛亥) day at the Earth Dog hour: fierce and cruel, scheming, crafty and calculating. One account says it comes out after ill. Verse: a Yin Metal day at the Dog hour, the wealth vault shut — to open it one must wait for Ox and Dragon to come; where Yang Wood (甲) and Yang Fire show at the stems within the month, wealth, rank and glory need not be guessed at. Verse: a Yin Metal day with Earth Dog at the hour — the five phases, wealth and the prosperity star, glorious and flourishing. In the pillars Dragon and Dog answer each other, and this is called the key opening the store. Fire and Water shine and it comes out; the Void (空亡) locking it shut is as usual. The period running to wealth ground and the country of the officer — with nothing broken, a naturally blessed aspect.

A Yin Metal (辛) day born at the Earth Pig (己亥) hour: turning from the prosperity star (禄) and stripping the officer, broken and injured instead; if it makes the Flying Prosperity Horse (飞天禄马) it is noble, and losing its season with no binding, it is busy for nothing. For a Yin Metal day at the Earth Pig hour: the flying the prosperity star binding into a frame. Yin Metal takes Yang Fire (丙) as its officer, and upon Pig (亥) there is a strong Yang Water (壬) injuring it, so the officer has no qi; if it gets a Pig month or a Pig day again, the Pig clashes out the Yang Fire within Snake (巳) as the officer star. If it is Metal Rooster (辛酉) or Metal Ox (辛丑) binding into a frame, noble; the other Yin Metal have no binding. Not carrying the month qi and with nothing to lean on, poor and low; with something to lean on, favourable. Metal Ox day at the Earth Pig hour: born in Dragon (辰), Dog (戌), Ox (丑), Goat (未), Tiger (寅) or Rabbit (卯) months, it makes the Flying Prosperity Horse, noble. A Goat month with Metal and Water periods, gold and purple, a regional post. Metal Rabbit (辛卯) day at the Earth Pig hour: Tiger, Rabbit, Pig and Goat months, the wealth strong producing the officer, gladness all his life. Snake, Rooster (酉) and Yin Fire (丁) in year or month, noble. Metal Snake (辛巳) day at the Earth Pig hour: the Snake character filling it in solid, it does not enter the flying to heaven (飞天) pattern and is read as officer and Resource (印) — it governs the parents exhausting their strength to support him, and wealth and rank after. Metal Pig (辛亥) day at the Earth Pig hour: with Pig again in year or month, the Flying Prosperity Horse, third or fourth grade, noble; a military office of the highest grade; marquis or earl. Tiger and Snake filling it in solid, then it is lessened. Rat (子) and Dragon in year or month, also favourable. Verse: a Yin Metal day, the heavenly stem, the Earth Pig hour — the Owl (枭) spirit turning from the prosperity star governs calamity and worry; with no clash, blessing comes out but is not weighty, and the prosperity star and horse flying to heaven, the nobility is of itself apart. Verse: a Yin Metal day with Earth Pig at the hour — the Owl spirit and turning from the prosperity star share one palace. Just like the waning moon covered by the cloud dragon; Yang Water, Snake, Yang Wood (甲) and Tiger are of no use. The parents whole but not in accord; the broken flower sets its fruit — guard against the wind. If there is no control, breaking, punishment or clash, the Flying Prosperity Horse blessing is weighty.
