The hours, on the clock in Kuala Lumpur
Almanacs give the hours by the sun: the Horse hour is 11 to 1, when the sun is highest. In Kuala Lumpur today the sun runs 64 minutes behind the clock, so on your clock the Horse hour is 12:04–14:04. The table is already converted. Why
| Hour | Clock time | Luck | Clashes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rat (子) | 00:04–02:04 | Lucky | Horse (马) |
| Ox (丑) | 02:04–04:04 | Unlucky | Goat (羊) |
| Tiger (寅) | 04:04–06:04 | Lucky | Monkey (猴) |
| Rabbit (卯) | 06:04–08:04 | Lucky | Rooster (鸡) |
| Dragon (辰) | 08:04–10:04 | Unlucky | Dog (狗) |
| Snake (巳) | 10:04–12:04 | Unlucky | Pig (猪) |
| Horse (午) | 12:04–14:04 | Lucky | Rat (鼠) |
| Goat (未) | 14:04–16:04 | Lucky | Ox (牛) |
| Monkey (申) | 16:04–18:04 | Unlucky | Tiger (虎) |
| Rooster (酉) | 18:04–20:04 | Lucky | Rabbit (兔) |
| Dog (戌) | 20:04–22:04 | Unlucky | Dragon (龙) |
| Pig (亥) | 22:04–00:04 | Unlucky | Snake (蛇) |
Lucky or unlucky by the spirit ruling the hour: six walk the yellow path and are lucky (Green Dragon, Bright Hall, Golden Casket, Heavenly Virtue, Jade Hall, Keeper of Fate); the other six walk the black path.
This day for each day master
BaZi reads a day by what its stem is to your day master, and a month by the month’s stem. This day’s stem is Yin Metal (Xin, 辛); this month, the Water Pig month (Gui Hai, 癸亥), has Yin Water (Gui, 癸). Each links to what the classics say about it. Don’t know your day master? Read each day against your whole chart
The Peng Zu taboos
A rhyme every almanac prints: one line for the day’s stem, one for its branch.
Xin days: do not make sauce, or the master will never taste it. (辛不合酱主人不尝)
Rooster days: do not receive guests, or they get drunk and wild. (酉不会客醉坐颠狂)
God of Joy (Xi Shen, 喜神): southwest. God of Wealth (Cai Shen, 财神): east. God of Fortune (Fu Shen, 福神): northwest.
